About The Book
Tai Jotun has never fit in with the Supernatural community she was raised in. No matter how hard she tried. So, she has settled for a life working as a paramedic. Little does she know that her powers have been suppressed since she was a small child. When those powers are suddenly released, her life is thrown into chaos. There are so many questions and not enough answers.
Why is her cat suddenly talking?
Who exactly is her elderly neighbor Uka?
What are these inugami creatures that are stalking her?
How is she going to hide this tail she can’t seem to get rid of?
Join Tai and friends, as they deal with monsters, mishaps, and magic.
The Review
The basic plot of this novel is quite intriguing. Tai, orphaned and adopted, is a ‘null’ – she has supernatural heritage but no powers other than greater than human strength and endurance.
However, after some attacks on various supernatural beings including one on Tai, her Kitsune powers start to manifest. Apparently they had been suppressed. The attacks need investigation and Tai might make good bait to get to the criminals. There is also a slow burn romance for Tai with someone she knew as a child. The Kitsune element, with Japanese mythology, adds to the appeal.
This will appeal to readers who enjoy myths, shifters or both and want the excitement of the attacks (for these continue) on Tai.
The Reviewer
I’ve been doing book reviews on my website, crossposted or linked to various social media, for a few years. I read a number of genres but I really enjoy all kinds of speculative fiction so thought I’d like to share my views with you. I love sci fi and other speculative fiction because of the way it can, at its best, make us see ourselves in a new light. Quite apart from the exciting stories, of course! I used to be an English teacher, and I’m a writer (fantasy) so I can be quite critical about style etc. but I hope I can also appreciate properly some books that don’t appeal to me personally but might be simply perfect for others. I have, obviously, read widely, and continue to do so.
