The Great Exodus has begun. Fleeing the relentless expansion of the Grand Empire of Xura, the U'skarite tribes set sail for the Old Myrian Empire. Bound by duty yet drawn to Isra's prophetic visions, Ara must choose between his loyalty to the crown and a burgeoning love that could change the course of history.
As the battle rages and the wolves howl for blood, Ara's fate hangs in the balance. Can he broker peace before the bloodshed escalates, or will he become a pawn in a game far greater than himself?
With the drums of war beating across the lands of Thearus, the songs of their deeds will be sung long after the last sword is drawn.

Whispers of White Sapphire: Tales of Thearus by John Malone is an epic fantasy steeped in prophecy, warfare, and forbidden allegiance. We find ourselves watching the displaced U’skar Qi tribes advance on the crumbling Old Myrian Empire, and the fate of an entire continent hangs in the balance. We meet Ara Zakarian, a loyal warrior in a world of duty and empire, who is captured by the very enemy he was meant to destroy. But as he begins to understand the U’skar Qi’s motivations and forms an unexpected bond with the mystical Priestess Isra, Ara’s worldview is irrevocably changed. With shifting alliances and ancient visions stirring, Ara must choose between his allegiance to a dying empire and a new vision of peace, justice, and unity that defies everything he’s known.
Author John Malone has a knack for worldbuilding, but also for embedding characters realistically into that world through their attitudes and dialogue, and he weaves a tale of vast scope and emotional intimacy. It's no mean feat blending sweeping political drama with a deeply personal moral reckoning, but I was drawn into Ara’s journey not just for the battles and intrigue, but for the way his inner conflict mirrored the external chaos perfectly. The romance between Ara and Isra is beautifully restrained, too, offering a quiet power beneath the clash of armies and ideologies and a realistically slower-moving romantic storyline where every moment feels earned. Malone’s prose is rich and immersive, capturing both the grandeur of war and the fragility of hope in ways that make you want to dive into this world and stay there. Overall, Whispers of White Sapphire is a beautifully constructed, thought-provoking epic that blends love, loyalty, and legacy in a world as vivid as any in the genre, and I would certainly recommend it.

Whispers of White Sapphire is an incredible tale that will once again take readers on a shocking fantasy journey, just like John Malone did with his first novel, A Sanctum of Swords! Which thrilled and entertained me from the get-go. Whispers of White Sapphire is another wonderful read with words that captivated and enthralled me, thanks to the dramatic twists and turns and phenomenal story that should not be missed!

As war looms, the fate of both peoples hangs in the balance, and what follows is an incredible and unforgettable tale, and this book lovers is the short premise of the incredible Whispers of White Sapphire!
The story of Whispers of White Sapphire is a sensational one because it encompasses everything good about literature. It has an outlandish, brave plot, enthralling characters, and an incredibly well-thought-out backstory that will keep the reader wanting to read for hours on end! And this is all thanks to the wonderful author John Malone.
John Malone is a talented author; there is no question about this. Malone’s writing keeps the reader on the edge of their seat; his suspense-filled book reminds me of a great fantasy action movie; there is a constant feeling of trepidation and a continuous sense of “what is going to happen next?!” as I read this book. I was enthralled because this is how fantasy books should be! John Malone is not only a brilliant writer for his ability to captivate the reader’s attention straight away, but he is also an excellent author for his ability to lace exceptional twists and turns throughout his story that genuinely had me shocked at points!
The combination of Malone’s shocking twists and his explanatory powers will immerse the reader in the story and make them visualise every detail, no matter how small. This writing approach is one of my favourites because it makes the reader feel included in the story and makes the reader feel as if they are in the same situation as the protagonist of the novel.
To conclude my thoughts on the brilliant piece of literature that is Whispers of White Sapphire, I would say if you are looking for a fantasy adventure that is unlike anything you have read before… a read that will keep you entertained for hours on end as well as enthral you, then this incredible book is for you! Whispers of White Sapphire five stars from me!

Altravgirl on Goodreads wrote:I am so glad I gave Whispers of White Sapphire a shot because it was captivating from the beginning with its opening preamble. The author has a unique writing style that kept me intrigued throughout. It is told from third person POV, but each chapter focuses on the character that is titled. I started recognizing there were two distinct storylines at about the 8th chapter, which then made me want to read more to see when they would merge.
The author has done a beautiful job at demonstrating hardships that the MMC faces (Ara aka Lord Zakarian) and the growth and development of the MFC (Sagra and Isra). The descriptions in the book were wild, especially the battle scenes. I could see the fighting and the gore happening before my eyes.
I love the quote: "I haven't sacrificed everything, but I will kill, and do so again, so I don't lose everything." It gave me chills when I read it.
I cannot wait to read more of John’s books and definitely recommend this one for those who enjoy a fantasy book with action, mythology and love weaved throughout.
Whispers of White Sapphire is the kind of epic fantasy that stays with you because of its characters as much as its battles. From early on, the line “Death walks with those who have mastered the hunt” sets the tone for a world where survival comes at a cost. The opening, especially the coming-of-age blood hunt, immediately grounds the story in its rules and stakes and makes the conflict feel real from the start.
The action scenes are intense and easy to picture, but what really held my attention was how much weight the story gives to loyalty, duty, and personal choice on both sides of the conflict. One of the things I appreciated most was the presence of strong female characters across both factions. Women in this story hold power, make difficult decisions, and actively shape events, which adds depth and balance to the larger narrative.
There are also quieter emotional moments that stand out. Ankine telling her daughter, “I sacrificed much of myself so that you would never have to take those risks in life,” added a very human layer to an otherwise brutal world and resonated deeply with me as a parent. I also liked how Ara’s letters are woven into the story, offering insight into his thoughts and breaking up the third-person narrative in a way that adds depth without slowing the pacing.
The worldbuilding is rich without being overwhelming, and the story balances large-scale war with personal stakes. This is a well-paced fantasy that will appeal to readers who enjoy immersive worlds, complex characters, and stories where every victory comes with a cost.
This is a strong epic fantasy novel, and Malone delivers a thoughtful, engaging story from start to finish.
