- Dissonance Volume I: Reality
In a post-apocalyptic world ruled by fear, where a mere glance could mean death, can one soldier rise above the chaos to reclaim humanity's lost hope?
===
The gorgons descended upon Earth in 2026, and by 2042, humanity is reduced to a mere whisper, hiding in fortified blockades away from the paralyzing gaze of these alien predators.
For those who remain, the rules are simple: stay quiet, move quickly, and don't look.
Sergeant Cameron "Jet" Shipley knows the stakes all too well; he's lost family, friends, and faith in a world where survival means living in the shadows. When he is thrust into a perilous mission to investigate mysterious thermal signals that could lead to more survivors, a new recruit within his squad unveils a shocking revelation: a weapon that could turn the tide against their alien foes.
But as Jet grapples with the implications of this hidden technology, he is forced to confront a troubling truth: why has it been kept under wraps for so long? With a growing sense of distrust in the military, the sergeant is torn between loyalty to his superiors and the desire to see justice for his fallen loved ones.
When the lines between friend and foe blur, can Jet confront his doubts and unite humanity against the gorgons, or will his thirst for vengeance blind him to the real threat lurking in the shadows?

Book Worm on Amazon wrote:This was an incredible read that had me completely captivated from start to finish. The story gripped me with its intense plot and well-developed characters. I found myself drawn to Sergeant Cameron "Jet" Shipley's struggle for survival against the terrifying gorgons. The idea of humanity being on the brink of extinction was both chilling and fascinating. I couldn't help but think about what I would do in such a situation, and it made me appreciate the resilience of the human spirit. The novel's depiction of a dystopian future felt so real that I was constantly on edge, eager to see what would happen next. Aaron Ryan's writing brought the world to life in a way that made me feel like I was right there with the characters, facing the same dangers and making tough decisions. If you enjoy stories that make you think and feel deeply, I highly recommend giving this book a read!
V.E. on Amazon wrote:The book is pretty intense and filled with thrilling, heartbreaking, and adventurous moments. Danger is lurking at every corner and from unexpected quarters and situations, so that just when you think that you have been saved, a new threat looms over you. Balancing the fragile thread between life and death is difficult and many precious lives close to the protagonist is seen seeping away.
AliReads on Amazon wrote:The book, Unveiling the Tension: A Review of Dissonance: Volume I: Reality by Aaron Ryan brings you a thrilling world in a post apocalyptic story where there soon be no more humans. There are aliens who are called gorgons. There is extensive world building in this world, while Shipley goes on a dangerous trip. Soon it takes a brilliant turn and the narrative gets even more exciting. The characters are well-developed, not stereotypes. This builds on the story well, adding a sense of humanity and detailed depth. I enjoyed this solid novel, even while it was somewhat conventional, it was still entertaining. Recommended.

Quirru on Amazon wrote:I really enjoyed this book. I'm not a young adult or super into military stuff but I really like sci-fi and this book mixes the terminology and tech in a way that's approachable for anyone. There's good character development and a variety of characters and you see and experience the world they are in as you read. It also packs a lot of heart.
The story is riveting and I finished Volume 1 today. I will have to wait for Volume 2 to arrive tomorrow to find out what happens next.
I don't think I have just slowed down and read a book in awhile and being cooped up at home with covid in a heat wave this book was appreciated and I'm hooked.
I got a copy for my son for his birthday since he's the same age as the main character and his wife immediately started reading it before he could even get his hands on it.
Will Gibson on Amazon wrote:A post-apocalyptic fiction book, the world filled with gorgons and nonhuman aliens that are rough and unstoppable, they have filled the earth with terror, sergeant Cameron has been there for a long time and has the skills that are needed to survive, one of them must important is to never look directly at a gorgon. It seems that there is no remedy or salvation and that finally the human race will be destroyed. The book fills you with terror because of the way it is narrated and the only thing you want is to see the end to know if they achieved it or not.
Mili on Amazon wrote:Ok, so I had a nice view to read this in - but wow, I couldn’t put it down. If you liked “Aliens” , you’ll love this. Same with “A Quiet Place”. This is my biggest compliment, it’s like “The Last of Us” with a bigger squad instead of only 3 on the mission. And I love that show. And the game - my word this could SO be a video game!
The characters are well rounded, the back story is very believable, and the action is brilliantly worded. No spoilers - but the characters and events in the Church near the end are just BRILLIANT! This MUST get picked up as a movie or by Netflix. I cannot wait for the next one.

R J on Amazon wrote:I devoured this book in one sitting. The demonstration of action scenes, the Nail-Biting scenes rejuvenate passion for reading. The Adrenaline rush is a real pleasure that makes you glued to the book.
Friendship in an unconventional atmosphere is another phenomenon aspect that adds another layer to this plot. The reflections of inner dimensions, and complexities, are some intricacies of the book that are written with uncomplicated narrative that makes readers resonate with the characters and make the book interesting.
Dialogues are well written, crisp, and spontaneous, the pragmatic conversation is depicted realistically and seamlessly reflects the horrific ambiance.
The book explores action, emotion, and humanity in the survival journey, conjuring a truly horrific atmosphere while creating emotional sanctuary in the heart. If you like reading something thrilling, bone chilling, with a dash of survival journey then pick it up.
Survival is a long journey.
So many people seem to have the idea that if/when we are visited by aliens, they will come bringing technological gifts or some higher form of spirituality. Well, this lot don't! At times I was afraid it was going to turn into a romance, but I just skipped those bits and the story didn't suffer!
