"Vault - the Rise of Serenity" is the third installment in a series titled Venerable, but it can easily be read independently of the previous volumes. The author introduces his characters in clear, easy-to-understand English and skillfully weaves in elements of the dystopian world he has imagined. I don’t want to risk revealing the plot of the novel, but let’s just say that, in true tradition of the genre, it invites the reader to reflect on other, more contemporary political and social events—events we’ve become so saturated with that we no longer react to them. That is the role of dystopian fiction: to push the inconsistencies of our society to the edge of absurdity in order to awaken the reader. Samuel Freedman does exactly that.
