About The Book
Every day we make new connections, whether it is intentional or not. It is human nature to seek out those connections and nurture them.
‘From Me to You’ features 14 wonderful authors who have all contributed a short story to the theme of connections.
Sink into intricate worlds and the lives of characters who are reaching out, just trying to find their people.
The Review
When I started this book, I had just DNF’ed six books in a row, and one of them was from an author I’d read and enjoyed previously, so I was feeling rather down, thinking maybe I’m back in another reading slump.
Let me tell you, those are awful. Reading is like something I LOVE to do, so not being able to read has me even more depressed than usual, and not being able to finish so many books in a row… it has to be a me problem, right? I had to be in a slump.
And then I picked this up, and before I knew it, it was 4 am and the book was done.
The sweet relief of knowing it’s not a slump.
This anthology is about connections, and nearly all stories have a variety of queer rep. The first story confused me a bit at the start, since there were no section breaks at PoV shifts, but once I got used to it, it was fine.
Really enjoyed the story with Orion and Aspen, the grumpy potioneer who keeps to themself is by now a favourite trope of mine.
The story about the bees has a horror-adjacent atmosphere.
There’s also a story from The Death’s Embrace universe, which is one of my favourite series, so I enjoyed it a lot.
And then there’s the story about a future where love and connection are all reduced to algorithms, which is both horrifying and worrying.
My favouritest of the lot was “Stormwing” by Jake Vanguard – it had me sobbing. It isn’t a sad story per se, but the emotions it evoked were so real.
In short, just go read this book! Speculative fiction about characters and connections, filled with queer rep and queer normative worlds.
